First part of adventure ending - new one beginning

April 2, 2012

Leaving Perry, GA today heading up to Tennessee.

On our way north, driving through downtown Atlanta, GA – we have always driven through rather than around and the throughways have always been busy, but amazing.

We had a long day today and arrived in Walton, KY and stayed overnight in a nice little park.  As we were leaving the next morning, I took a picture of the small garden in the front as it had a little bit of everything in it: palm, cactus and tulips – a reminder of all.

Every other year, when we were driving south and through this area, we were always leery of the mountains and Jellico are – the highest peak was at 2200 feet and seemed so high; on this trip through we were laughingly discussed how we aren’t scared here, anymore, it is barely a hill compared to out west where we were travelling up and down on mountains up to 8000 feet.

Another anomaly along this highway, there are several areas with large crosses on the highway but this particular one has always struck us as strange – see the cross and read the sign on the building right beside it!!!!

From here so that we did not get really cold, we just travelled as far as Renfro Valley.  This is an entertainment area similar to Nashville.  I don’t really remember it on TV but they used to televise from here same as the Grand Ole Opry.  Beautiful area in the hills and would be a great place to visit during the summer\early fall.  There is a whole complex here with old historical buildings and some small stores.  They were not yet open at this time of year, but they were starting the clean up Some pictures here of the area.  Again, all the times coming through here, have never taken pictures and decided to this time.

The temperature has been falling all over so not as warm here either so we will be travelling again and will end up back in Ontario about a week earlier than we were planning.

Went to Wapakaneta, Oh today and stayed at KOA.  We ordered pizza from there as they have their own pizza oven and deliver right to the trailer which we had found out the year before.  They have a great KOA and the owners are amazing.  The next day we went to Neil Armstrong museum which was really interesting.  They have several exhibits on the different parts of the original space mission.  One the best parts are that they were showing the original televised moon landing and we could remember where we were when this was actually on.  I could see how the younger ones would not be that impressed with all the sci-fi stuff that they see nowadays, but that was real which made it so interesting.

We went to a nice restaurant in town Marley’s that was serving $2.00 cheeseburgers and $4.00 manhattan dinner.  The martinis were $2.00 and so was the wine.  The house was amazing, older and bar really done up nicely, it had been a Moose lodge previously but obviously an older house that they had taken over as well.

The next day there was a bit of sn… coming downs and I told Ken close his eyes to drive up the road for a while (just kidding!!)

So we started heading for Mississauga.

April 11, 2012
Left Wapakoneta and heading to Ontario – crossed at Ambassador Bridge today.  We will be staying in Milton, ON for the next month at least as they are the only park around here that is open year round; it is also closest to our family.

Looking forward to seeing our daughter and husband and grand kids and our friends.

I had to take some pictures of the first "spring" flowers in Mississauga - everyone forgets about them...

Summary

The best parts on all of our travels are the different people we have met along the way.  Everyone one very helpful in regards to the area we were travelling, the RV travelers were always good for a laugh, a bit of advice.  We got the chance to visit some of them in their own homes and to have a “happy hour” or two with others; we stayed in some great RV resorts.  We never booked ahead on any of them and did not have any trouble getting a spot.  We sometimes emailed ahead to see if they had openings, but they never seemed to get back to us before we arrived or we received email after we had already been there!

We never did boondock on the way up or down as the weather was not to our (my) liking to stay without power and heat.

Starting our adventure in Canada was one of the best things we could have done as it gave us an appreciation of what we have and can compare it to anywhere we travelled in the USA. Ken had never been to the west coast and mountains was astonished at the mountains

In the USA, I found the desert area the most fascinating, nothing like I expected. Arizona was amazing and would like to have spent more time, but while we were there, it kept getting colder, particularly liked Lake Havasu City.

For warmth (including the people) and price, Mission, TX was very good and we stayed there for a month.  From there went to several places in Florida, longest stay was at Labelle, FL but did manage to stay at other places this year along Gulf as well as the East coast.

Next year will be a hard decision as to where we will end up for the winter.  Oh yes, we are leaving for the warmth again. We have been in Ontario now since April 12, 2012 and I have been freezing, was not supposed to be like this!!!!

This is not the end, I am going to show this as “TO BE CONTINUED” since we will still be living in the RV for a while and have a trip planned already to Kingston, ON for a Titanium rally.

We still have the great province of Newfoundland to see in Canada, so may be going down east for a while this summer, will keep   you all posted.  Check in once in a while, we could be anywhere!!
